When our kids are anxious, every instinct wants to carry that worry for them. This book fundamentally shifted how I think about supporting anxiety because it focuses on things parents can do. Parents don't cause anxiety, but parents are powerful. Personally, it helped me recognize the small ways I was accommodating anxiety with the best intentions, while sometimes making it harder for my child to build confidence in managing difficult feelings. We first used the framework for OCD-related challenges, and later returned to it for middle-of-the-night waking. Once I had the tool, I could keep coming back to it. I appreciate that SPACE is a detailed program with steps. I am not a SPACE provider. In coaching, I help families learn about the approach and connect with trained providers. This book is one more tool for supporting the individual child in front of us.
