I think Lisa Damour is amazing, and this is one of the books I love for the teen years. It's so easy to see our teens' big emotions and immediately think we need to fix something. The reframe in this book is really helpful: intense feelings can be part of healthy development. She helps explain why a teen can seem calm one minute and overwhelmed the next, and gives parents practical ways to stay connected without escalating the conflict. Understanding what's happening makes those moments feel a little less baffling. What I appreciate is that this book can help us feel more confident and more compassionate at the same time. I think most of us could use both when we're parenting teenagers.
